More Performance for your Band Saw Blade
How the ARNTZ C-TEC AlTiN Coating Enhances Bandsaw Blade Performance
High cutting speeds, difficult-to-machine materials, and increasing productivity demands place ever greater stress on modern bandsaw blades. The result is increased wear, more frequent blade changes, and unplanned machine downtime. To address these challenges, hard-coated bandsaw blades are becoming an increasingly popular solution.
With the optional ARNTZ C-TEC Aluminium Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) coating, users gain a solution that reduces wear, extends blade life, and enables higher cutting speeds. The coating protects the tooth edges from heat, friction, and mechanical stress, helping to maintain consistently high performance throughout the cutting process.
Why a Coating Makes the Difference
During sawing, immense forces act on the tooth tips. Abrasive materials and high cutting speeds in particular lead to continuous wear of the cutting edges. A high-quality hard coating provides an additional protective layer against these effects.
The high surface hardness of the AlTiN coating increases resistance to abrasive wear and reduces the risk of tooth chipping. At the same time, its excellent oxidation resistance ensures reliable protection of the tooth tips even at elevated temperatures.
Another key advantage is the coating’s exceptionally smooth surface. It reduces friction between the tool and the material, lowers heat generation, and improves chip removal. Especially when cutting soft or adhesive materials, this can significantly reduce material build-up on the cutting edges and minimize the formation of cold welds.
Greater Efficiency in the Cutting Process
The technical advantages of the coating translate directly into economic benefits. Because the cutting edges wear more slowly, blade life is significantly extended. At the same time, higher cutting speeds can often be achieved, reducing cycle times and increasing productivity.
Fewer blade changes also mean less machine downtime. This helps manufacturers improve process efficiency and maximize machine availability.
The coating is particularly beneficial for applications using minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) or dry cutting, where reduced cooling places greater thermal and mechanical stress on the bandsaw blade.
What Is Behind the AlTiN Coating?
The ARNTZ C-TEC coating is applied using the Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) process. During this process, coating materials such as aluminium and titanium are transformed into a vapor state within a high-vacuum environment and then deposited onto the tool surface.
By adding nitrogen, an extremely hard and strongly adhering Aluminium Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) layer is created. The process takes place at temperatures below 500°C, preserving the properties of the bandsaw blade while providing a highly durable protective coating.
More Performance for Your Bandsaw Blade
The ARNTZ C-TEC AlTiN coating has been developed to meet the growing demands of modern manufacturing processes. It combines longer blade life with higher cutting speeds while simultaneously reducing wear, heat generation, and machine downtime.
The coating is available for ARNTZ bandsaw blades in various blade heights and is offered as standard for blade widths of 34 mm and above. It provides an effective way to sustainably increase both the performance and profitability of sawing operations.
